Amanda Phillips Finishes as Co-Medalist, Cards Multiple Program Records to lead Women’s Golf at Bowdoin

Phillips becomes the second medalist in program history

BRUNSWICK, Me.Amanda Phillips '28 led the Wesleyan women's golf team this weekend, recording multiple team records, while finishing as the co-medalist at the Polar Bear Shootout hosted by Bowdoin. Wesleyan finished in 10th place out of 14 teams with a 310-313-623 (+39) in the 36-hole tournament. Phillips had the best weekend of her collegiate career, carding a 69-74-143 (-3) to finish in a tie for first place on the player leaderboard. Phillips' opening round 69 (-4) led the entire field going into Sunday and is the lowest 18-hole stroke and scoring total in program history. She followed with a 74 (+1) on Sunday to finish with a two-day scoring and stroke total team record for Wesleyan while finishing in a tie with Season Wei of Middlebury for first place on the player leaderboard. Phillips is just the second Cardinal in program history to finish atop the player leaderboard in a tournament, joining Danielle Landis who won the 2022 Williams Classic.
 
The record-breaking 69 in Round 1 featured a staggering six birdies while she went for a 32-stroke total across the back nine wherein she finished -3 over those nine holes. Phillips followed with one birdies, two bogies, and 15 pars on Sunday while she went on a 12-hole streak shooting par or better in Round 2.
 
Next to finish for the Cardinals was Katherine Liu '30 who went 79-78-157 (+11) in her first collegiate tournament, good enough for a tie for 40th place overall. Liu totaled two of her three birdies in Round 2 action and shot even par across the front 9 in both rounds.
 
Mia Holbrook '27 shaved seven strokes off her Round 1 total, finishing 84-77-161 (+15) to finish in a tie for 58th place. Holbrook totaled 13 pars on Sunday in Round 2. Grace Wu '29 shot 82-84-166 (+20) while Crissy Murphy '30 went 80-90-170 (+24) for the weekend while she finished with five birdies over the two rounds which was the second-most birdies on the team.
 
The Cardinals are back in action on Sept. 19-20 with a trip to Middlebury for the George Phinney Classic.
