BRUNSWICK, Me. –
Wilson Ouimet '30 shot +1 in his second and third round combined to finish in a tie for 15
th place on the player leaderboard, leading the Wesleyan men's golf team at the 54-hole Bowdoin Invitational held at the Brunswick Golf Club. Wesleyan finished the tournament in a tie for 14
th place out of 16 teams, shooting 302-303-306-911 (+47) on the weekend.
A competitive field was NESCAC-heavy, but NYU prevailed with a stroke total of 880 for the weekend, finishing six strokes ahead of the runner-up Middlebury. Wesleyan's 911 stroke total was just four strokes away finishing inside the Top 9 finishers in the team scoring.
Ouimet shined throughout the weekend, shooting 76-72-73-211 (+5) to finish in a tie for 15
th place out of 88 golfers on the player leaderboard. Ouimet had at least two birdies in all three rounds while he didn't record a score worse than bogey on any of the 54 holes in the tournament. His best stretch came in a 10-hole stretch in round 2 where he was -3 with three birdies and seven parks over those 10 holes. His round 3 on Sunday featured 13 pars and two birdies.
Another first-year in
Michael Jones '30 was the next-highest finisher on the player leaderboard as he went 75-77-76-228 (+12) to finish in a tie for 40
th place. He tallied five birdies and had 12 pars in both the first and third rounds.
Johnathan Harlukowicz '27 was right behind with a 73-77-80-213 (+14) in a weekend that saw him lead the team with 10 birdies to finish in a tie for 50
th place. Harlukowicz's first round 73 (+1) saw him record five birdies including three in his first seven holes played on Saturday.
Rounding out the lineup for Wesleyan was
Peier Li '30 who went 79-82-77-238 (+22) while
Paul Wilpon '30 was right behind with a 78-77-84-239 (+23). Wilpon recorded 15 pars on Saturday to go along with four birdies for the weekend.
Wesleyan finishes the fall slate on Oct. 17-18 with the NEIGA Championship hosted in Brewster, Massachusetts at the Captains Golf Course.
