MIDDLETOWN, CT. - Downing the reigning National Champions on Wednesday night, the Wesleyan men's soccer team threw a 2-0 shutout of Tufts University in a dominant defensive effort that saw
Yousuf Saeed '27 break the draw in the second half and a penalty kick goal from
Aiden Londergan '27, ending Tufts' 23-game unbeaten streak.
The Cardinals played a defensively dominant game led by a solid veteran lineup, refusing to be cornered by the highly meticulous Jumbos offense. The Jumbos have lost just two games since the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
After a scoreless first half, Wesleyan broke through in the 52nd minute when
Yousuf Saeed found the back of the net with an assist for
Ford Cash '29. Settling the ball just above the box, Cash redirected to Saeed slipping through the middle before Saeed lit the shot into the right corner.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Londergan found himself tripped up inside the box following a long throw in and converted the penalty kick into a second goal.
Sam Adiutori, making his first appearance in goal, played a sound game and stood strong for the Cardinals as the second half began to heat up, making five saves on eight total shots. Nik Antic finished the game with three saves for the Jumbos.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they host Swarthmore at 12 p.m.
