GAME NOTES
Senior halfback Mike Muraca tied a Wesleyan team record by scoring five TDs as Wesleyan rolled past Amherst, 46-14.
Accumulating 238 all-purpose yards, Muraca rushed 17 times for 95 yards, including TD scampers of 1, 12, 1, and 7 yards and also scored a TD after blocking a punt. His two catches totaled 41 yards while he also returned three kickoffs for 73 yards and was credited with a 29-yard punt return after his block.
Muraca equalled the Wesleyan team record of five TDs in a game set in 1918 by H.G. Travis in a contest against Hamilton. Wesleyan's remaining points came from a 23-yard field goal from Josh Stein and a 39-yard interception return by Devin Fletcher.
In boosting its record to 3-2 on the year, Wesleyan ran the ball 53 times for 303 yards and amassed 394 total yards with Howard Lindsay adding 82 yards rushing on 10 carries while Dave Cottrell picked up 76 yards on his 11 attempts.
Amherst got two rushing TDs from Dan Orlando of 14 and 1 yard for its points as Orlando led all rushers in the game with 105 yards on 23 carries.
Amherst fell to 0-5 on the season and extended its losing streak to 17 games, dating back to the 1990 season.
