Leading just 7-6 at halftime, Wesleyan scored 27 unanswered points in the second half, paced by the throwing of QB Jake Fay and the receiving of Matt Perceval, as Wesleyan pulled away for a 34-6 victory. The win improved Wesleyan's record to 2-0 while Hamilton dropped to 0-2.
During the game, Fay became the all-time career leader for both passing yards and total offense at Wesleyan as he now has 5,209 passing yards in four seasons and 5,308 yards of total offense, surpassing the previous marks of 5,002 and 5,271, respectively. Fay completed 20 of 31 attempts for 309 yards and three TDs while also rushing for 44 yards. Fay also owns the Wesleyan career record for TD passes, adding to his total which stands at 42.
Perceval caught 11 passes for 220 yards, including TDs of 40 and 52 yards. His 40-yard reception in the first quarter put Wesleyan ahead for good, 7-6, as Wesleyan scored 34 straight points following Hamilton's only TD midway through the period.
With the tenuous one-point lead to start the second half, Wesleyan took the opening kickoff and marched 75 yards on 17 plays, consuming 8:58 of the clock. Larry Woolard, who had 69 yards on 17 rushes, capped the drive with his first of two one-yard plunges for a TD and a 14-6 Wesleyan edge. Wesleyan scored on its next three possessions as well, mounting drives of 58, 80 and 81 yards as Wesleyan collected 318 yards and 17 first downs over the final 30 minutes. Hamilton, which had six first downs nand 170 yards in the first half, was limited to only two first downs and 51 yards in the second half. Second-half offensive plays favored Wesleyan by a 45-20 margin while time of possession showed Wesleyan with a 22:30-7:30 advantage.
