Mission Statement:
As an athletic department dedicated to the ideal of a student-athlete experience centered on education and leadership, the Wesleyan Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee has an important role to play in the critical work of addressing social injustice. The Committee will work to ensure that Wesleyan Athletics policies, practices, procedures, and systems at every level promote an equitable, inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment for our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and community.
Below are the primary responsibilities of the Committee (with the caveat that we are asking the Committee to review this as one of its first orders of business).
a. To serve as an intentional mechanism for issues regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion within athletics to be discussed on a regular basis.
b. Provide a resource for students, coaches, and staff to convey issues, concerns and suggestions regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion in the department.
c. Recommend educational programming/professional development for students, coaches, and staff to meet contemporary needs of department constituents.
d. The committee will create a plan of action to review department policies, practices, and systems and make recommendations to the Athletics Administration to ensure they are reflective of best practices for building diverse inclusive and equitable spaces, practices, policies, systems, and opportunities.
e. The Committee will report to the Athletic Director on a monthly basis or more frequent based on necessity.
