Nick Greenwood has served on the Wesleyan Baseball staff since 2020, following a nine-year professional career that included pitching in the major leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He made his major league debut vs. the Mets on June 16, 2014, earning the win and striking out David Wright. He retired the first 10 batters he faced against the Phillies, threw four scoreless innings in relief vs. the Dodgers, and threw three scoreless innings in his first career start against the Diamondbacks. He had success against some of the sport’s elite hitters, including striking out Christian Yelich, Manny Machado, Evan Longoria, and Chase Utley, among others.
Nick was drafted in the 14th round in the 2009 draft by the San Diego Padres and in 2010, was involved in a three-way-trade along with future Cy Young winner Corey Kluber. In the minors, he was named a Northwest League All-Star, Double-A All-Star, and in 2015, led the Triple-A Pacific Coast League in wins with 13. For his pro career, he pitched in 314 games over 870.1 innings, while striking out 513 and only walking 195.
Nick had a successful career pitching for the University of Rhode Island, including going 7-3 with a 3.61 ERA in 92.1 innings as a junior. He was awarded the ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove award for the top fielding pitcher in the nation. As a sophomore, he had a 3.73 ERA and led the Atlantic-10 with 95 strikeouts in 92 innings.
A native of Cromwell, Conn., Nick attended Xavier High where he went 16-6 and was team MVP as a junior. He was named All-State and All-New England in soccer, as well as played on the basketball team. In American Legion baseball, he struck out 18 in a game for the Rocky Hill-Cromwell-Portland Legion team.
