Marissa Folts in now in her third season as an assistant coach on the Wesleyan field hockey staff in 2022. This is Folts’ first collegiate coaching appointment after graduating in May 2019 from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Folts put together an impressive resume in her playing career as a defender at Skidmore (2015-18) as she was a two-time NFHCA Third Team All-American (2017-18) as well as a three-time NFHCA All-North Atlantic Region honoree (2016-18), two-time All-Liberty League First Team selection and three-time Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week. She became the 11th player in Skidmore’s program history to earn multiple All-American honors while she was selected to compete in the NFHCA Senior All-Star game in 2018.
An immediate impact performer for her first year on campus, Folts started all 81 possible games for Skidmore, never missing a contest in her four collegiate seasons. She finished her Skidmore career with six goals and 16 assists for 28 points while also contributing 15 defensive saves. Folts led Skidmore to the Liberty League Tournament all four years and an overall record of 51-30 (.630 win percentage). Her best statistical season came as a junior in 2017 when she put up a single-season career-high 15 points (three goals, nine assists) while leading the team in assists and adding five defensive saves.
Upon graduation, Folts served as the assistant varsity field hockey coach for the Saratoga Springs school district, a position she held from June 2019 before earning her position at Wesleyan. As an assistant, she assisted the head coach in research of new skills and drill work, analyzed team film, motivated the players and instructed game strategies and techniques. She also worked as a personal trainer at Saratoga Peak Performance from January to August in 2020 where she taught field hockey stick skills to players aged 10-18 while also incorporating agility and conditioning skill work.
Folts was a double-major at Skidmore, graduating in 2019 with bachelor’s degrees in psychology and education. She chose to stay local for college as she graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in June 2015.
