Torr Terranova enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Wesleyan men’s and women’s tennis programs in 2024-25. Terranova brings with him a wealth of coaching experience to Middletown including several successful head coaching stints as he will work alongside Head Coach Mike Fried with both Cardinal programs.
Terranova most-recently served as head coach of Wilkes men’s and women’s tennis programs for three seasons (2018-21). He took charge of two programs that have dominated the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and the two sides didn’t miss a beat in his tenure. The Colonels men earned their 12th consecutive MAC Freedom Championship and won a first round NCAA Tournament match for the fifth consecutive season in 2018-19 while the women won both MAC Freeman titles in the competitive seasons in Terranova’s tenure as the shortened 2019-20 campaign didn’t feature a conference championship tournament.
Prior to Wilkes, Terranova was the assistant coach at Quinnipiac University for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns, assisting with both the men’s and women’s programs. Before Quinnipiac, Terranova was the Head Coach and Director of Men’s & Women’s Tennis at the University of Hartford, where he was named the America East Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year in 2015-16.
A dynamic recruiter, Terranova put together three of the top recruiting classes in the history of Hartford tennis during his tenure and his success carried over to Wilkes where he recruited the first player from outside the Atlantic South region to the University in school history.
In addition to excelling on the court, Terranova’s programs have found success in the classroom as he coached 15 NCAA All-Academic athletes between his time at Wilkes, Quinnipiac and Hartford and 25 ITA All-Academic players including seven from 2018-19 Wilkes women’s tennis team.
Prior to his collegiate coaching experiences, Terranova was the Head Girl’s Coach at Weston High School in Connecticut from 2010-11, where he won a State Championship and was Named Coach of the Year. Terranova also served as the boy’s assistant at Weston from 2005-10. He also has experience as a club professional, racquet technician and tournament director.
Terranova graduated from Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He was a four-year member of the Purple Knight’s varsity men’s tennis team. He went on to earn his Master’s in School Counseling from Central Connecticut State University in 2017.
