Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Trinity on the Road, 3-1

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Wesleyan University women's ice hockey took on NESCAC rival Trinity College on Friday night as part of a home-and-home series, and were defeated by a score of 3-1. Senior Laura Corcoran made 30 saves  and Bridget Sherman '19 scored for the Cardinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Corcoran stopped 30 of the 33 shots she faced in net.
  • Trinity scored both a powerplay and short handed goal.
  • The Bantams scored twice in the third period.
  • Wesleyan committed five penalties while Trinity committed four.
  • The Cardinals were outshot 33-23 in the game.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trinity opened up the scoring with the lone first period goal at 10:47 gone by in the first as Alison Slowe took a pass from Caroline Howell and got it by Corcoran to give the Bantams a 1-0 lead.
  • The teams played a scoreless second period as Corcoran made 12 saves and Trinity's goaltender Sydney Belinskas made three saves.
  • Playing a man down, Trinity was able to score what would be the deciding goal as Emma Tani took a Delaney Harrop pass and gave the Bantams a 2-0 lead at 3:35 in the third.
  • Trinity's special teams were at it again, this time converting on the powerplay, as Hannah Oganeku scored at 11:57 in the third to give the Bantams a 3-0 lead. Shannon Farrell and Cheeky Herr were given assists on the goal.
  • The Cardinals got on the board at 15:44 as Sherman was able to put one by Belinskas. The goal was Sherman's first of the year.
  • The Bantams would go onto win the game 3-1.

UP NEXT

  • The two teams are right back at it tomorrow afternoon as they complete their home-and-home series. The teams will face-off at 3 p.m. at Spurrier-Snyder Rink in Middletown, Conn. The Cardinals will be celebrating their five seniors prior to the game as part of Senior Day.
