Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team kicked-off NESCAC play at Tufts (4-0, 2-0) on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals (2-2, 0-1) fell 2-0 to the Jumbos, who have not allowed a single goal scored against them during the 2018 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wesleyan had a great opportunity to score during the 14th minute, but Julia Meehan's header shot off of Andi Wiley's corner was denied by a Tufts' defender, keeping the contest scoreless.
  • Tufts was able to take advantage of a penalty kick at the 39:45 mark, making it 1-0. Izzy Moore's shot sent Cardinal goalkeeper Sarah Hammond diving to her left, but the hard strike found the bottom right corner of the net.
  • Wiley tried to make something happen for the Carindals at the 70:00 and 76:13 marks respectively, but both shots were thwarted by Tufts' goalkeeper Emily Bowers.
  • The Jumbo's tacked on another tally at the 80:45 mark. Lily Keiderling's head was first to Wesleyan's goal-kick, sending the ball up to Melina McDevitt who chipped the ball over Hammond's head for the 2-0 lead.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Hammond suffered the loss in net for the Cardinals with three saves, while Bowers made just three stops in goal for the Jumbos.
