Women's Soccer Downs Hamilton 3-0

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team (8-2-2, 4-2-2) downed Hamilton 3-0 on the road on Saturday morning. The win marks the first for the Cardinals against the Continentals (8-4-1, 4-4-1) in their ninth all-time meeting.

"When you are willing to make that extra run, win the hard tackle and stay composed in front of the goal, you give yourself a chance to win," stated head coach Eva Meredith. "The margins were small in this game, but today we brought that little bit of extra fire, and that ultimately made a huge difference."

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Wesleyan came out strong, firing the first five shots of the game. Emily Ribatt looked to give the Cardinals an early lead at the 2:07 mark, but her shot was denied by Hamilton goaltender Rachel Pike.
  • The Continentals had a great chance to score during the 25th minute, but back-to-back shots were thwarted by Wesleyan goalie Sarah Hammond.
  • The visitors broke through at the 32:10 mark when Nicole Brodkowitz one-timed a corner kick by Dani Milovanov into the upper right corner for the 1-0 edge.
  • Wesleyan doubled the lead after an initial shot by Milovanov was blocked. Danielle Soto came up with the rebound, sending it across to Gianna Argento, before Grace Devanny knocked the ball into the goal at the 80:04 mark.
  • The Cardinals extended their lead to 3-0 with 87:39 expired when Kate Hausladen rifled a shot from the top left of the 18 into the upper right corner.
