Men’s Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to Eight Games in 3-1 Win Over Bates

LEWISTON, ME – Men's soccer was able to regroup after allowing an early goal, scoring three second half goals to beat Bates Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals have now gone unbeaten in eight straight contests, pushing their record to 7-2-2 (3-2-2 NESCAC), while the Bobcats have lost their last three dropping to 6-6 (3-5 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • After having two shots blocked two minutes earlier, Bates broke through in the 8th minute as Simon Clarke headed one in for his first goal of the year. Clarke was set up by Owen Keleher on the cross.
  • The Cardinals put some immediate pressure on in the first minute of the 2nd half as Dane Harmaty '24 put one on net 30 seconds in, but a great defensive save was made by James Peter. The defensive save was followed up by a Lucas Ruehlmann '25 shot that went high over the crossbar
  • Max Hofstetter '24 was able to finally put one in the net for the Cardinals in the 64th minute off a give and go with fellow sophomore Harmaty
  • Evan O'Brien '24 gave Wesleyan the lead minutes later as he one-timed a free kick taken by Zach Wheeler '25 in the 66th minute
  • Wesleyan put the game away in the 82nd minute when Christopher Textor '22 scored off of a save by goalie Ryan Manning. Kyle Burbage '25 ripped a shot that ended up being deflected right to Textor for the game sealing goal.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Wesleyan outshot Bates 12-7 (7-4 on-target), but Bates had the edge in corners 7-2
  • The Cardinals continue their streak of scoring in every match with three goals today
  • Textor and Harmaty are now both tied for the team lead with three goals a piece
  • Hofstetter scored his first goal of his career
 
WHATS NEXT:
Wesleyan will face Colby College up in Waterville, Maine Sunday afternoon at 2 PM. The Mules come in winners of two in a row, while the Cardinals have not lost since September 14th.
