Men’s Soccer Takes Home a Win on Senior Day, 3-1

Cardinals are now unbeaten in 11 straight (9-0-2 in that span) and secure a 10-win season for the first time since 2011

MIDDLETOWN, CT – The men's soccer team continues their winning ways, extending their win streak to five games. This also marks their 11th straight match without a loss, a streak that goes back to mid-September. With this 3-1 victory the Cardinals move to 10-2-2 (5-2-2 NESCAC), while the Continentals fall to 7-7-1 (3-7 NESCAC).
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Wesleyan struck early, as three minutes in Matthew Rubinstein '23 took advantage of a misplayed ball by Hamilton to break the scoreless tie. The long pass was sent through by Sam Keenen '23, then lifted over the goalie by Rubinstein
  • Rubinstein almost had goal number two in the 9th minute, but a defensive save by Thomas Benson kept the Wesleyan lead at one
  • Wesleyan capitalized on another Hamilton miscue, when Dane Harmaty '24 stole a pass and beat the goalkeeper in the 20th minute
  • After Hamilton survived three shots from Wesleyan, including a Harmaty shot off the post, they counter attacked resulting in a Spencer Royal goal making it 2-1
  • Zack Burd '25 put through an insurance score in the 74th minute for the Cards. Jake Lundberg '23 dribbled through the defense, before centering a pass to Burd stretching the lead to two
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Dane Harmaty and Matthew Rubinstein both score their team leading 4th goal of the year
  • Despite losing, Hamilton outshot Wesleyan 18-12 (12-6 shots on target)
  • Liam Devanny '23 makes a season high nine saves for his 10th win of the season 
NEXT UP:
Wesleyan closes out the regular season with a home NESCAC matchup against Connecticut College (11-3, 7-2 NESCAC) at Citrin Field at 6 PM. Conn. College comes in fresh off a victory over No. 3 Tufts, which vaulted them into first in the conference.
