HARTFORD, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's track and field team compiled 84 points on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon to claim third place out of four teams at the Trinity Quad Meet. Tufts took the title with 226 points while the Bantams were runner-up with 121 points and Connecticut College was fourth with 68 points.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- James Giokaris '24 earned top marks with the lone Cardinal first place finish on the day as he claimed first in the javelin with a throw of 44.67m. That personal-best throw for Giokaris was well more than three full meters farther than his collegiate debut toss of 41.18m last weekend at Tufts
- Christian Denny '22 continued his breakout junior season with a pair of strong performances in the 100m (11.05 seconds, 2nd place) and 200m (22.35, 3rd) as he landed personal-best times in each event
- Wesleyan showed well in the 400m with Kyron Roberts '21 (50.72 seconds) taking a runner-up finish while his classmate Kevin DeLoughry '21 (51.34 seconds) was right behind in third
- Will Ratner '22 ran a personal-best time of 4:05.21 in the 1500m which was good enough for fifth place out of 19 competitors
- The Cardinals' distance runners put forth a strong showing in the 5000m as Dale Ross '22 (16:52.74), Matthew Frishkoff '21 (16:53.17) and Nathan Gamble '21 (16:55.32) ran well together and placed second through fourth, respectively
- Connell Oberman '22 was runner-up in the discus with a personal-best 37.85m as well as third in the hammer throw with another personal-best of 35.50m

Wesleyan finishes up the 2021 season on Saturday, May 1 with a trip to Tufts where the Cardinals will participate in another Quad Meet against the same three schools.
