BRUNSWICK, ME- Men's hockey is able to produce a late 3
rd period goal to tie NESCAC foe Bowdoin, 1-1.
Colin Cobb '23 beat the Polar Bears' goalie with just six minutes remaining to avoid a second straight loss for Wesleyan in conference play. With the tie the Cardinals move to 5-4-2 (4-1-2 NESCAC), while Bowdoin moves to 3-4-3 (3-2-2 NESCAC).
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Bowdoin got their only goal of the game early, courtesy of Albert Washco. Bobby Pearl ripped a wrist shot that was turned away by Erik Voloshin '24 but the rebound was sent into the back of the net by Washco
- Wesleyan survived two first period Bowdoin power plays, before going on a power play of their own in the dying minutes of the 1st. Stevie O'Connor '22 and Tyler Levine '22 both recorded a shot on their man-up opportunity, but neither was able to capitalize
- The penalties for both team continued in the 2nd and 3rd period as they combined for seven for 14 total minutes in the penalty box. Wesleyan might have got one of their best chances of the 2nd as time expired when Cobb ripped a shot that was turned away by a Bowdoin defender
- Bowdoin just survived a Wesleyan power play, but Wesleyan wasn't done searching for the equalizer. With just over six minutes remaining, Levine carried the puck into the attacking zone where he was able to find Cobb in front for the game-tying goal
- In overtime each team got a few shots off, with Wesleyan finishing with five and Bowdoin with four. Bowdoin had the final scoring opportunity of the game with 10 seconds remaining, but Ean Small's shot went wide
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Erik Voloshin made a career-high 33 saves
- The teams combined for 0-10 on power play opportunities (WES: 0/7, BOW: 0/3)
- Colin Cobb is now tied for the team lead with his 4th goal of the season
