SPRINGFIELD, MA – Men's swimming and diving was defeated by both Roger Williams and Springfield Saturday. Roger Williams handled the Cardinals pretty easily 149-112, while Wesleyan nearly pulled off the victory against Springfield 147-146. Wesleyan had four total first place finishes from two different individuals. The men are now 3-6 after dropping both of their competitions Saturday. Wesleyan will be back in action Tuesday the 19th against Trinity at Wesleyan Natatorium.
Harrison Hong '25 was responsible for two of those first-place finishes on the day. He began with a 1
st place finish in the 100 back where he edged his competition with a time of 54.55. He the followed that up with another 1
st place finish in the 200 back, crossing at 2:00.64.
The 200 back was one of Wesleyan's best events, as they took 1
st, 2
nd and 3
rd. Hong was followed by
Richard Ettinger '23 in 2
nd with a time of 2:01.77, and Lucus Pirner '25 at 2:05.13 in 3
rd.
Mason Polaner '24 was the other individual who had multiple first place finishes for the Cardinals. Polaner came in 1
st in the 1000 freestyle coming in with a time of 10:15.53. He then competed in the 500 free where the result was the same, a first place finish (4:54.47).
Wesleyan was able to take 3
rd in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.28. The team was made up of Hong,
Andrew Kim '25,
Eric Tran '23, and
David Kantar '25.
The Cardinals had a few more strong performances Saturday.
Jeremy Kim '23 took 2
nd in the 200 breast clocking in at 2:19.90. While
Eric Tran continued his stellar day with 2
nd place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly with times of 53.41 and 1:57.40 respectively.
