WATERVILLE, Me. – The Wesleyan men's swimming & diving team took part in the NESCAC Championships since Thursday and the Cardinals finished in 11
th place out of 11 teams with 223 total team points.
Tomas Gonzalez '27 was the highlight for the Cardinals as the junior qualified for the Consolation final in the 200 fly on Sunday morning with a time of 1:50.34. He followed that up on Sunday night in the Consolation final where he set a new school record (breaking the previous mark that had stood since 2017) with a time of 1:49.23. That record-setting time was the fastest in the Consolation Final, earning him ninth place overall, in addition to being an NCAA B cut time.
More points throughout the week came from
Daniel Isman '26, who closed out his Wesleyan career with a 23
rd place finish in the 400 IM (4:10.52) and a 24
th place finish in the 200 breast (2:07.76). Isman qualified for the PreConsolation final of the 200 breast with a time of 2:06.40 and he did the same in the 400 IM with a time of 4:09.90.
Jeremiah Tomioka '29 put in a pair of good performances in the distance events, taking 16
th place in both the 1000 free and 1650 free. Tomioka started with the 1000 free where he clocked in at 9:43.72 to take 16
th place out of 30 swimmers. He followed with a time of 16:24.18 in the 1650 free, which was also good enough for 16
th place.
The 100 fly saw both
Beau Chan '29 and Gonzalez finish 25
th and 26
th, respectively, in the preliminaries, missing out on the PreConsolation Final by one position. Chan had a time of 50.89 seconds while Gonzalez clocked in at 50.92.
Wesleyan took 10
th place in the 800 free relay as the team of Gonzalez,
Ben White '29, Chan, and Tomioka clocked in at 6:57.80.
