MIDDLETOWN, Conn. –
Tomas Gonzalez '27 of the Wesleyan men's swimming & diving team earned NESCAC Performer of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. This is Gonzalez's first career POW nod.
Primarily a butterfly specialist, Gonzalez delivered a breakout performance by showcasing his versatility in freestyle events while posting his strongest meet of the season against No. 13 ranked Connecticut College. The junior opened the meet with the fastest freestyle split of the 200 medley relay, anchoring in 21.2 seconds, and capped the meet by leading off the 400 freestyle relay in 47.5, again the fastest split of the event. In the individual races, Gonzalez posted a lifetime best in the 200 freestyle (1:43.10) and narrowly missed a personal best in the 100 butterfly (50.67), just .01 off, winning first place in both events.
The Cardinals spend the next 2+ weeks preparing for the 2026 NESCAC Championships hosted by Colby College.
