Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Hockey Defeated in OT by Connecticut College, 4-3

MIDDLETOWN, CT- Women's hockey was defeated by Connecticut College Saturday night in overtime, 4-3. Wesleyan took a first period lead on a power play at the 12 minute mark, thanks to Caroline Mezias '25. The teams would alternate scoring back and forth heading into the 3rd period. Wesleyan scored what was thought to be the game-winner with less than a minute left, however, Connecticut College responded with a goal in the final 10 seconds forcing OT. In overtime, the Camels converted on a two on one so give them the victory.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Wesleyan capitalized on a power play opportunity in the first period. Mezias received a pass from across the blue line from Brigitte Goeler-Slough '23 and delivered the first goal of the game
  • Early in the 2nd period Connecticut College responded with a goal of their own. Melissa Alexander was able to find the back of the net off an assist by Camille Phelan
  • Less than three minutes later the Cardinals retook the lead. Joyce Sun '24 took a shot from the blue line that was redirected in by Chiara Christie '23 and past the Camels goalie. Melanie Conca was able to tie the game right back up near the end of the 2nd period
  • Rei Halloran '23 was under siege in the 2nd period, but held strong making 15 saves to keep the game tied going into the 3rd period
  • There were plenty of shots in the first 19 minutes of what was supposed to be the final period, but no goals. With just 50 seconds left Cali Stevens '22 assisted Rachel Ziff '23 and it looked like Wesleyan was going to walk off with a dramatic home victory. After gaining possession after the faceoff, Conn College puled their goalie and was on the attack. The clock was ticking under 10 seconds as the Camels ripped two more shots at Halloran. She turned both away but the third coming off the stick of Camille Phelan found the back of the net with six seconds left
  • In overtime, Connecticut College found themselves on a two on one break early. Phelan was once again the scorer sending the Camels home with a win
