Sarah Hammond '22 earned her first career NESCAC Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Hammond has now started the last five NESCAC competitions for the Cardinals after splitting goalie duties over the first half of the season. Over that span (458 minutes) she has allowed only allowed one goal, leading to a 3-0-2 record for Wesleyan down the stretch. This week she put up two of her better performances of the year. First posting five saves in a 1-1 draw against Connecticut College in the regular season finale, followed up by a 110-minute shutout of the No. 3 seeded Bowdoin Polar Bears in the NESCAC quarterfinals. Her two-overtime, five save performance lowered her goals against average to just 0.57. The Cardinals would win in penalty kicks, 5-3, to advance to the semifinals where they will face the #5 Trinity Bantams.
The Cardinals finished the week 1-0-1, with a quarterfinals win over #3 Bowdoin (0-0) 5-3 in penalty kicks. Wesleyan will advance to take on the No. 5 Trinity Bantams in the conference semifinals who upset the 4
th seeded Middlebury Panthers 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
