MIDDLETOWN, CT.- The Wesleyan men's hockey team scored seven goals on way to a 7-1 victory over Post University Saturday night. Five different Cardinals were in the scoring column, with
Jake Lachance '23 and
Go Uemura '23 netting two goals apiece. This is the most goals Wesleyan has scored in a game since the 2019-20 NESCAC Championship game when the Cardinals scored seven goals against Trinity to take home their first ever NESCAC title. Wesleyan begins the season 3-0 for the first time since the 1986-87 season, while Post drops to 3-6 with the loss.
The scoring parade started early for the Cards, putting through three first period goals to get out in front in the first 20 minutes.
Go Uemura got the scoring going for Wesleyan just five minutes into the game. Jack Morototlo '26 poked the puck free in the neutral zone creating a two-on-one situation for the Cardinals, where Uemura would look off the defender before ripping a shot past the Eagles goalkeeper, Benjamin Cuneen. Minutes later Wesleyan would secure goal number two on a power play chance eight minutes in.
Emmet Powell '23 would create for
Jake Lachance '23, dropping the puck off for him to one-time into the back of the net for the Cardinals second goal of the period. Wesleyan almost immediately added goal number three, dumping the puck into Post's zone before
Ethan Davidson '26 chased it down off the ricochet to complete the three-goal period.
Wesleyan got right back to work in the 2
nd period, netting three more goals. Lachance added his 2
nd goal of the game in the opening minutes of the period. The senior defenseman intercepted a pass in the neutral zone before carrying it across the blue line, faking a slapshot, and getting to left for a wrist shot. Uemura was able to follow that up with his 2
nd goal of the contest, scoring off a nice dump off pass from
Colin Cobb '23 in the slot. The Cardinals scored goal number six less than a minute later. This time it was
Kyle Anderson '24, who followed a rebound off a shot that hit the back board and bounced back in front of the goal. Post responded with their only goal of the game within the next minute, with John Arciszewski firing a shot on goal that was saved, however Nick Weber was there for the backhanded putback to get Post on the board.
Wesleyan had a pair of power play chances in the 3
rd period that came up empty, but the Cardinals were still able to add one more score in the final period. Five minutes into the period, the Cards added their final score, with Powell flying in for the one-timer off a pass into the slot from D.J Dixon '24.
