Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Downed at Hamilton, 2-1

written by: Stella Ramsey '22

CLINTON, N.Y. - Although it was a competitive and well-played game throughout, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team (7-12, 3-11 NESCAC) was not able to pull off a win in Saturday's game at the Hamilton Continentals (10-8, 7-7 NESCAC). Following a difficult loss to Hamilton the previous night, Wesleyan put forth a strong effort but could not overcome a two-goal deficit, falling to the Continentals 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, Hamilton's Mia Berretta managed to put one in with just a minute and a half left in the second period. Following several turnovers back and forth between the blue lines, Claire McGennis slipped the puck through to Berretta, who found herself with a wide-open offensive zone. Berretta drove straight to the net, faked right, and slid the puck into the net on her backhand.

Down by one heading into the third period, Wesleyan gave up another goal in the first five minutes. Hamilton's Nancy Loh picked up the puck from the face-off in Wesleyan's defensive zone. Loh lost possession, but her teammate Hyla Mosher grabbed the puck off her skate and made an assist to Abby Smith.

Wesleyan ramped up the energy nearing the end of the third period. In the last remaining minutes of the game, Brooke Keogh '23 had a chance to put Wesleyan on the board with a powerful drive towards the net, but could not get the puck past Hamilton's goaltender Sidney Molnar '22. Moments later Isabelle Allieri '25 fired one at the net but hit the crossbar. She quickly recovered the puck and sent it to the net and over Molnar's shoulder from the goal line to make it a 2-1 game.

The Continentals outshot Wesleyan 32-25, and Wesleyan goalie Rei Halloran '23 played a great game with 30 saves total, her sixth 30+ save game of the season.
