Women’s Hockey Gets Back on Track With Win Over Williams, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, CT- Women's hockey gets back on track with a win over Williams Friday night, 3-2. The game was dominated by power play opportunities for both sides. Wesleyan capitalized on two of those chances in the 1st period to take a 2-0 lead. The teams would then alternate goals in the 2nd, before Williams scored the final goal on a power play of their own early in the 3rd period to reach the final score of 3-2.
This win snaps a 9-game losing streak for the Cardinals, who started the season 6-0. They improve to 7-9 (3-8 NESCAC), while Williams drops to 10-7 (7-6 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Wesleyan went on the power play just five minutes into the game and instantly capitalized. Brigitte Goeler-Slough '23 and Brooke Keough '23 worked the puck around to Bridget Cornell '23 who sliced her way to the front of the goal sniping a shot past the Ephs goalie while falling to the ice
  • Wesleyan scored again on a power play chance later in the period. Jenna Stevens '24 set up a slapshot from Cornell, who had her shot redeflected into the back of the net by Goeler-Slough out in front of the net. The 1st period ended with a combined six total power plays
  • Williams put through their first goal early in the second period. After a Wesleyan turnover in the neutral zone, CC Wallin took the puck the other way and launched a wrist shot that beat Rei Halloran '23 to cut the deficit to one. The Ephs would go on two power plays in the 2nd period, but were turned away by stellar Cardinals' defense
  • Effie Tournas '25 would respond with a Cardinals goal with less than a minute left in the period. Tournas stole the puck from an Ephs defender and put a sweet move on the goalie to extend the Wesleyan lead back up to two goals
  • Williams put the pressure on in the 3rd period, desperate to at least tie the game and put it into overtime. The Ephs outshot Wesleyan 16-9 in the period, managing to score a late goal thanks to Ellia Chang to cut make the score 3-2
  • The Wesleyan defense would hold strong in the final three minutes, even with the Williams' extra skater. Halloran was under siege with shots, including a span of five shots in under 20 seconds midway through the 3rd period, but turned them all away
