Softball Takes One of Two Against Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Softball takes one of two against Williams Saturday. The two teams matched up early this morning in a continuation of a game that got suspended due to darkness the night before. They picked up in the 5th inning with the score at 6-3 in favor of the Ephs. Williams picked up right where they left off, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the 6th to extend the lead to seven before Wesleyan scored two 7th inning runs to get to the final score of 10-5. In game number two both teams' offenses got going, ending in a 10-7 victory for Wesleyan. The Cardinals move to 9-11 (2-2 NESCAC), while Williams moves to 14-10 (3-3 NESCAC).
 
HIGHLIGHTS (Game 1, 10-5 Loss)
  • Courtney Collins-Pisano '22 opened up the game with a double, followed by a Kendall Mancuso '22 base hit to give Wesleyan runners on second and third. A few batters later Darlene De La Cruz '25 reached on an error, driving in the first run of the contest
  • Williams responded with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take their first lead of the day, but Wesleyan came right back the next half inning to tie the game on a De La Cruz double to right center
  • Williams scored four runs over the next two innings to hold a 6-3 lead going into the 5th where the game was stopped due to darkness. When they resumed this morning, Williams picked up right where they left off scoring four runs on five hits to balloon the lead to 10-3
  • Wesleyan attempted to make a late comeback, scoring two 7th innings runs, but it wasn't enough as the Ephs took game one of two
 
NOTES:
  • Darlene De La Cruz (1-for-3) tied a career-high with three RBI
  • Kendall Mancuso (3-for-4, 2 runs) had her first three-hit game of the season
  • Williams outhit Wesleyan 12-7
 
HIGHLIGHTS (Game 2, 10-7 Win)
  • Collins-Pisano started off the game with a walk, before moving around the bases on a pass ball and error by the catcher to once again give Wesleyan a first inning lead. Williams came back with three runs on five hits in the bottom half to take the lead at 3-1
  • Collins-Pisano came up big again in the 4th, blasting a 2-run home run over the left center field fence, but Williams was quick to respond once again tying the game up at four in the bottom half
  • Wesleyan exploded for six 6th inning runs to regain a comfortable lead. De La Cruz singled home two, followed by a Hannah Docktor '24 grand slam just two batters later to total their six 6th inning runs
  • Williams made things interesting, scoring three runs on three hits to trim the lead to just three going into the final inning. Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 shut the door in the 7th to give Wesleyan the split against Williams

Wesleyan will return to action Wednesday April 20th, where they will play Mitchell in a doubleheader at home.
