CLINTON, NY- Men's track and field competed in the NESCAC Outdoor Championships this Saturday in New York, competing against 10 other institutions. They were led by
Sam Musto '24 who broke a school record at the meet in the 400m, posting a time of 49.39 seconds. The team as a whole had some impressive performances with: one 2
nd place finish, four 3
rd place finishes, three 4
th place finishes, and one 8
th place finish on the day. Musto and company helped Wesleyan to finish 7
th out of the 11 teams competing with a final team score of 47.5.
Musto was impressive in his only event of the evening, setting a new Wesleyan University record in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.39 seconds. Musto broke
Kevin DeLoughry's previous record in the 400m which was 49.56 seconds which he set back a few years ago in 2019. Musto just got beat out for 3
rd place by Jackson Davis of Williams who ran a 49.38 second 400 meter.
Another athlete that had a good showing was
Christian Denny '22 who had top five finishes in both the 100 and 200m. Denny finished 4
th in the 100 meter, clocking in with a time of 10.95, while he also finished 4
th in the 200 meter with a time of 22.20.
Connell Oberman '22 was a field athlete that performed well in multiple events. Oberman came in 3
rd in the discus, throwing for a distance of 39.54m. He had another impressive showing in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 41.11m which was good for 8
th place.
Wesleyan had two more top three individual finisher in
Javier Orellana '25 and
Noah Olsen '22. Orellana placed 3
rd in the shot put with a distance of 13.98m while Olsen also placed 3
rd, with a height of 1.90m in the high jump.
To finish things off for the Cardinals, they had two more top three finishes in the two relay events. They placed 2
nd in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:22.16. The team was made up of
Will Ruden-Sella '25,
Emmett Perry '25,
Aaron Foote '24, and
Christian Denny. Wesleyan came in 3
rd in the 4 x 800m relay with a time of 7:52.21. Their relay team included
Ethan Walker '22, Nathan Fogarty '25,
Jasper Shapiro '23, and
George Lepska '25.
Wesleyan will compete next in the New England DIII Championships on May 6
th and 7
th in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
