MIDDLETOWN, CT. - The Wesleyan men's swimming & diving team competed in a tri-meet this Saturday, competing against Roger Williams and Springfield College. The Cardinals split, defeating Roger Williams by a score of 148.50 to 131.50 then falling short against Springfield College 153 to 145 in a close battle. The Cardinals had a handful of solid performances, including two first place finishes.
Mason Polaner '24 and
Harrison Hong '25 were the standouts for Wesleyan, each winning one of their respective events. Polaner placed first in the 500 yard free, beating out the competition by over two seconds with a time of 4:52.52. The junior also competed in the 100 yard free (9:56.32), placing 2
nd right behind James Chan of Springfield College (9:55.51). Hong was stellar in his events as well, winning the 100 yard back clocking in at 55.29. He had a 2
nd place finish as well, finishing as the runner-up in the 100 yard fly (51.85).
Eric Tran '23 had a solid day in the pool, placing top three in three different events. Tran began the day with a 2
nd place finish in the 200 yard fly (1:55.24), just getting beat out by James Chan (1:55.03). He then took two third place finishes in the 500 yard free (4:56.02) and the 200 yard IM (2:01.33).
Fa'alataitaua Fitisemanu '24,
Devayan Roychoudhury '26, and
Jake Rybczyk '24 each finished with a pair of top three finishes. Fitisemanu placed 3
rd in the 100 yard back (56.04) before taking 2
nd in the 200 yard back (2:02.17). Roychoudhury had two third place finishes on the day. The freshman competed in the 100 yard breast (1:01.43) and 200 yard breast (2:18.40). Rybczyk continues to impress in the diving events, taking 2
nd in the 1 meter dive with a score of 250.27 followed by a third place finish in the 3 meter dive (253.81).
Wesleyan had two more individuals have top three finishes in
Ryan Kobayashi '25 and
Daniel Isman '26. Kobayashi finished 3
rd in the 200 yard fly, touching the wall at 2:01.60. Isman was impressive in the 200 yard breast, taking 2
nd place with a time of 2:16.28. The Cardinals also had a 2
nd place finish in the 200 yard free relay with a team made up of Hong, Polaner, Roychoudhury, and
David Kantar '25.
Wesleyan will return to Webster Family Natatorium January 18
th to take on NESCAC opponent Trinity.
