MIDDLETOWN, CT.- The Wesleyan men's swimming & diving team took down Trinity Wednesday afternoon in a home dual meet. The Cardinals finished with 10 first place finishers, winning the match by a score of 180-110. With the win Wesleyan moves to 4-6 on the year and are winners of their last two. Trinity drops to 3-4 following the defeat at Webster Family Natatorium.
Harrison Hong '25 and
Mason Polaner '24 continue to impress this season with both taking home multiple first place finishes for the Cardinals. Polaner took first in both the 200 yard free (1:44.75) and the 500 yard free (4:48.27). The junior also placed 2
nd in the 50 yard free (22.35), only finishing behind his teammate
Sam Anderson '24 who just edged him out with a time of 22.25. Hong took first in both of his individual events. In the 50 yard fly he touched the wall clocking in at 23.61 that was able to beat out Trinity's Dillon McDermott (23.62). He then placed just ahead of fellow Cardinal
Eric Tran '23 (52.83) in the 100 yard fly with a time of 52.63.
Tran had a first place finish of his own in the 1000 yard free, coming in with a time of 10:09.22. The Cardinals had four more first place finishers on the day.
Andrew Kim '25 came in first in the 50 yard breast (28.36), while also having a top three finish in the 100 yard breast (1:02.88).
Devayan Roychoudhury '26 touched the wall first in the 100 yard breast (1:01.81), while also coming in as the runner-up in the 50 yard breast to his teammate Kim.
The final two first place finishes on the day for the Cardinals came from
Jake Rybczyk '24 and
Daniel Isman '26. Rybczyk continues to place well in the diving events, finishing with a score of 270.44 in the 3 meter dive (1
st place) and a score of 219 in the 1 meter dive (2
nd place). Isman (4:23.60) finished just ahead of another Cardinal in
Alex Brun '23 (4:26.94) in the 400 yard IM.
Jacob Lafferty '23 also had a productive day, taking a pair of 2
nd place finishes in the 50 (26.10) and 100 yard back (55.98).
Wesleyan will enjoy a two-day break before getting back in the pool to take on Colby in a dual meet up in Maine on January 21
st.
