STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –
Grace Devanny '23 of the Wesleyan women's track & field team made history on Friday, setting a new NCAA Division III record in the 500m, highlighting the Cardinals' performance at the NYC Gotham Cup.
Competing against 30 others, Devanny ran the race of her life, sprinting to the finish line in first place with a time of 1:14.17 breaking both the national and her own school record in the process. Devanny's previous personal and school record of 1:15.20 was shattered by more than a full second, besting the previous NCAA Div. III record of 1:14.33 set by Ashante Little of Wheaton College (Massachusetts).
Competing in the 60m dash for just the second time in her career, Devanny was fourth-fastest overall out of 54 sprinters, clocking in at 7.94 seconds.
Jordan Walter '25 showed very well in her first career appearance in the 800m, finishing in 2:20.32 which was good enough for fourth place out of 36.
Fiona Carroll '25 set a personal-best in the pole vault, recording a mark of 3.21m to take eighth place out of 18 in the event.
Gabby Harris '23 posted just the second sub-27 second 200m time of her career, crossing the line in 26.72 seconds.
Cornelia Carragher '25 shaved more than six seconds off her previous personal-best time in the 1000m, running the event in 3:10.68 on Friday.
Maeve Hoffman '23 posted a career-best time in the one mile, running the event in 5:10.89 to take 10
th place out of 33.
Stephanie Ager '26 also ran a new PR in the one mile at 5:18.73, as did
Miranda Graves '23 (5:29.67).
Wesleyan's 4x400m relay team of Harris,
Sophia Mack '26,
Kenzie Kelly '25, and Schlosberg teamed up to clock in at 4:08.28, good enough for sixth place.
Next up for the Cardinals is a two-meet weekend as Wesleyan plays host to an Indoor Invite on Saturday, January 28 before traveling to Boston for Middlebury's New England Small College Invitational.
