Box Score BRUNSWICK, ME. – The Wesleyan men's tennis team opened their season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional Championships with a weekend highlighted by
Harry Collomb '26 winning the Single B Draw title as he defeated Amherst College's Rex Harrison in a three-set showdown at Bowdoin College.
RESULTS
While Collomb swept the competition through the weekend with a Round of 64 bye and five total singles victories, Collomb opened the seminfinal round early Sunday morning with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Babson's Andrew Watson on his way to the championship finals. Facing Harrison in the finals, the first set was a tiebreaker that ended with a 7-6 (5) win for Collomb before Harrison gained the upper hand and forced a third set with a 2-6 loss for Collomb. As the title sat on the line, Collomb pulled the final 11-9 comeback victory to end the weekend.
Collomb defeated Bates' Eli Criss (8-1) in the Round of 32, Amherst's Peter Wang (6-4, 6-2) in the Round of 16, and Trinity's Brandon Felcher (6-0, 6-0) in the quarterfinal. Collomb was joined in the quarterfinal by
Harry Portnoy '24. Despite Portnoy's quarterfinal loss, he racked victories over Tufts' Davide Mirza (8-3), Trinity's John Pope (8-5), and Amherst's Ethan Ohm (6-2, 2-6, (10-8)).
Two other Cardinals reached the Round of 16 in the Singles B Draw.
Max Lustgarten '25 defeated Bates' Ben Adey (8-1) and Tufts' Aarush Ganji by default.
Max Litton '26 took home wins over Babson's Martin Mejia (8-4) and Trinity's Jack Ginter (4-1, injury).
In the Championship Singles Draw,
JT Bilski '26 reached the quarterfinal round, picking up three wins before Williams' Matt Kandel ended his run at the title. In the Round of 64, Bilski defeated Babson's Caymus Choi (6-3, 6-1). The Round of 32 saw another win over Middlebury's Nathan Jackson (6-3, 7-5). Bilski's final pickup was a tie-breaker matchup against Amherst's Andreas Sillaste (7-6 (5), 7-5).
Brett Keeling '27 reached the Round of 16 with wins over Emerson's Pete Sevikul (6-0, 6-2) and Colby's Jake Cohen (6-4, 5-7, 6-2).
Ben Mitchell '24 defeated Babson's Logan Back (6-2, 6-1).
On the doubles side, Collomb and Portnoy picked off two wins to reach the Round of 16, defeating Trinity's Eduardo Sanchez-Carrion and Pierce Rutledge (8-5) and Colby's Jake Cohen and Paul Dandler (8-7(7-5)).
The Cardinals return to action Oct. 7-8 when they travel to Skidmore College for the Skidmore Invite.
