MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Battling through nor'easter conditions on Saturday morning, the No. 22 Wesleyan Women's soccer team held down and held out in a 0-0 NESCAC draw with Bowdoin College as they celebrated their seniors at Citrin Field.
The senior quintet of
Kaitlyn Hoglund,
Brianna Mark,
Lina Rodriguez,
Serena Sink, and
Saige Rovero, along with graduate student
Audrey Lavey made a historic trip to the NCAA Final Four in 2021. In 2022 they made a return trip to both the NESCAC Championship and the NCAA Tournament.
The wind didn't do the Cardinals (7-3-4 overall, 3-2-4 NESCAC) any favors, nor did it favor the Polar Bears (7-3-4 overall, 4-3-2 NESCAC). No goals were scored but the Cardinals offense was quick on the starting draw as
Katie O'Connell '25 and Lavey both struck on the Polar Bears, forcing Charlotte Iannone to make the saves deep in the net.
The Polar Bears controlled possession through the first 45 minutes of action, outshooting the Cardinals 8-4 overall. However, both teams entered the half with a 0-0 score.
The Polar Bears almost gained the advantage around the 63-minute mark as the ball rolled past Cardinals goalkeeper
Molly Brumbach '26, but an offsides call by the officials deemed the play no goal.
Sink and the defense rebounded in the second half, allowing the Polar Bears only one shot through the remainder of regulation as the Cardinals.
Stefanie Stoj '26,
Waverly Meyers '26, and
Maria Utz '27 all recorded a shot on goal.
Brumbach earned her third shutout of the season, making four saves as Iannone made five for the Polar Bears.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in their final regular season game when they host Connecticut College for a 6:30 p.m. NESCAC matchup at Citrin Field.
