CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Jumping six placements from last year's 2022 regatta, the Wesleyan women's crew varsity 8 took fifth place out of 35 entries in the women's collegiate eights at the Head of the Charles on Sunday morning, one of the largest regatta gatherings in the country. The second varsity 8 finished in 14th place.

Shayna McCarthy '24 fell into the seventh spot early on as they hit the Riverside checkpoint with Wellesley College, the 2023 Division III National Champions, in first place. At the midway checkpoint the Cardinals jumped a placement, now in sixth on their way to the final checkpoint where they sat in fifth. Fifth place would be the final for the Cardinals, finishing with a clocked time of 18:20.43. Tufts University took first place as Wellesley fell to 10
th.
The Cardinals also fielded a second varsity 8 team, consisting of

th, but managed to move up to 14
th through the midway and final checkpoint, finishing in 14
th with a final time of 18:48.62.
The Cardinals look to wrap up their fall season on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they compete at the Head of the Fish regatta in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., with a 12 p.m. start time.
