Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s ice hockey opens season with overtime loss to Conn.

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Led by an underclassmen duo of Aiko Sims '26 and Beats Tura '27, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team took Connecticut College to overtime but fell 3-2 in NESCAC action in the season opener on Friday night from Spurrier-Snyder Rink.

The Cardinals gained an early lead in the first period as Sims clipped her first-career goal as a Cardinal at 18:05. Sims took a rebounded shot from Tura off a prior shot by Caroline Kee '26, down low on the right faceoff circle and got it behind Camels goaltender Devon Galizio. The Camels tied the game up at one shortly after with the goal coming off the stick of Alana Burm inside a scrum in front of Rei Halloran '23.

Nearly taking the lead on a shot that hit the cross bar and fell back behind Halloran around the midpoint of the second period, the Camels followed up the no goal call with a secured power play goal to take a 2-1 lead at 14:48 on a deflected shot by Casey Chesner.

Entering the third period down a goal, the Cardinals roared back and tied the game up again at two as Tura snagged her first goal as a Cardinal as well. Gaining the zone for the Cardinals was Sam Galanek '26 for Jenna Stevens '24 behind the net. Stevens fired a heavy shot to Turas out at the blue line before Tura hit the back of the net with the game-tying goal at 9:59.

Charlotte Harris scored the game winner for the Camels in overtime.

The Cardinals outshot the Camels 40-24 overall, going 33-48 off the face-off. Jenna Rekoske '24 won eight draws out of 15 taken.

Halloran made 21 saves in net as Galizio made 38.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18, when they host Connecticut College in the second of back-to-back games at 3 p.m.
