SPRINGFIELD, MA. – With five placements on the day, the Wesleyan wrestling team collected 79 points for an eighth place finish out of a field of 18 schools at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College on Saturday afternoon.
RESULTS
Coast Guard won the event with Springfield, Wilkes, Williams, Delaware Valley, NYU, and Penn College filling in the gap ahead of the Cardinals.
CJ Shea '25 and
Max Martinez '25 both finished in fifth place at 157 and 141 respectively. Both Shea and Martinez reached the quarterfinal round in each weight class. Good for sixth place,
Aris Dashiell '25 at 194,
Dean Omirly '25 at 197, and
Shailen Savur '25 at 141. Savur also reached the quarterfinals.
Coasting through the round of 64 on a bye, Shea saw his first match of the morning against US Merchant Marine Academy's Austin Manning. Shea downed Manning 11-4 by decision landing two takedowns. Shea finished Kaleb Pool of Southern Maine 14-3 by major decision with four takedowns, but fell in the quarterfinal to Delaware Valley's Nicholas DeLorenzo, 15-5 by major decision.
Martinez also earned a bye to the round of 32 where he beat NYU's David Lightfoot by decision, 12-6, thanks to three takedowns. In a close bout with Coast Guard's Owen Woolcott, Martinez hit a reversal and takedown late in the third period but fell in the quarterfinals 14-8 by decision to Adam Schaeublin of Trinity.
Dashiell nailed a 17-0 tech fall over Hunter's Therroll Lafayette, landing four near falls and two takedowns on the afternoon. Dashiell then fell by tech fall to Coast Guard's Kenneth Marra.
After a round of 32 bye, Omirly won 11-4 over Williams' Wyatt Moyer by default but was defeated in the next round 12-1 to Keevon Berry from Centenary.
Savur's first round was a win over Michael Palma of New England College, 7-0, by fall with a takedown and near fall. The second round went in Savur's favor again, defeating Delaware Valley's Taylor Weaver, 12-9, with two takedowns and a reversal. Savur fell in the quarterfinals to Noah Hunt from Penn College by tech fall, 15-0.
The Cardinals next hit the mat after the Thanksgiving break on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the RIT Invitational.
