WINTER HAVEN, FL. – The Wesleyan softball team competed in two games Tuesday afternoon, falling to St. Scholastica 10-5 before defeating Salve Regina 5-4. In the first game against St. Scholastica, the Cardinals found themselves down 3-0 in the 2
nd before scoring five runs in their half to take the lead at 5-3. The Saints added five runs of their own in the 4
th to take back the lead for good, eventually ending with double-digit runs and a 10-5 victory. Wesleyan bounced back in the second game of the day, defeating the Seahawks behind a 6
th inning go-ahead double by
Hannah Docktor '24 to put the Cards up 5-4. The Saints improve to 8-4 with the win, Salve falls to 1-7 with the loss. Wesleyan splits again on day two of their spring break trip, moving to 2-2 on the year.
HIGHLIGHTS (10-5 Loss vs. St. Scholastica)
- The Saints offense got going from the jump with a leadoff single followed by a RBI-double by Emma Bolin to get on the board in the opening inning. Haley Rosenthal put the Cardinals down in order in the bottom half and St. Scholastica held a 1-0 advantage after one
- The Saints kept their bats hot to open the 2nd inning, opening with two base hits to set up first and second with nobody out. After a lineout, Rosenthal came to the plate and helped her own cause with a 2-run single to center field, 3-0 Saints
- Wesleyan came back with some offensive firepower of their own in the bottom half of the 2nd. Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 led off with a single, followed by another single by Molly Lennon '26 and a walk by Darlene De La Cruz '25 and the bases were loaded with nobody out. Wesleyan got on the board after Revi Brown '23 was hit by a pitch, but the real damage came when Brooklin Williams '23 came to the plate and drove in two with a single to center field. The Cardinals wouldn't stop there, adding two more run on an error and RBI-groundout to lead 5-3
- St. Scholastica had a big inning of their own in the 4th to take back the lead. The Saints managed five runs by virtue of five hits and three Wesleyan errors to take back the lead at 8-5, but the Cards were able to force to runners to be stranded on base to stop the bleeding
- The Saints added two more runs in the final two innings to reach 10 runs. Wesleyan managed to get a runner on base in the final frame, but Rosenthal closed it out to reach the final score of 10-5
NOTES:
- Secaira-Cotto (1.2 IP, 5 R, 5 R (0 ER)) picked up the loss, Williams (3.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R (1 ER), 4 K's) closed the first game out with 3 and 1/3rd solid innings
- Williams (1-for-3, 1 R, 2 RBI) wa ssoid at the plate as well, securing her first-ever 2-RBI game of her career
- The Saints outhit the Cards 14-5, while also leaving nine runners on base
HIGHLIGHTS (5-4 Win vs. Salve Regina)
- Both teams opened game number two by going down in order. Salve was able to get on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd inning, putting together two hits including a Francesca Rubino RBI-single to go up 1-0
- After a quiet 3rd inning offensively for both squads, the Cards and Seahawks were able to find some runs in the 4th. It started with Wesleyan, who was able to push across two in the top half of the 2nd inning to take the lead at 2-1. After two quick outs, Wesleyan strung together four straight hits including RBI knocks by Krissy Gately '24 and Williams. Salve responded in the bottom half of the inning with two of their own off two hits and two Wesleyan errors and the Seahawks once again had the lead 3-2
- The offenses kept in going in the 5th inning, starting again with the Cards. They opened with runners on second and third, but after two straight groundouts it took a two-out two-run hit from Lennon for the Cardinals to retake the lead at 4-3. Salve came back with two hits, eventually scoring on a wild pitch to even the game at four
- Docktor prescribed what ended up being the game-winning RBI-double in the top of the 6th, driving in Lizzie Marino '25 who had pinch-ran for Gately after her leadoff single. Salve Regina left a runner of base in each of the final two innings, and Wesleyan was able to come away with the 5-4 victory
NOTES:
- Docktor (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) recorded her 3rd career three-hit game, driving in a run in the process
- Lennon (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) now has seven hits in her first four games, including two three-hit performances. Gately (2-for-3, 1 RBI) was the third and final Cardinal with multiple hits
- Kelly Baker '26 (4.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R (2 ER), 2 K's) picked up a win in her first-career start
- Wesleyan outhit the Seahawks 11-7, Cards left seven on base compared to Seahawks 10

Wesleyan will return to action on March 16
th after a day off tomorrow. They will play in two games on Thursday, first against Framingham State at 9 am followed by Clarkson at 11:30 am.
