No. 21 Men’s Tennis Picks Up First Win of Season Over Connecticut College, 9-0

NEW LONDON, CT. – The 21st ranked Wesleyan men's tennis team controlled the match from beginning to end, with multiple impressive individual performances on way a victory over NESCAC opponent Connecticut College on the road, 9-0. The Cardinals pick up their first win of the season, improving to 1-1 (1-1 NESCAC). Connecticut College falls for the first time in the young season, dropping to 1-1 (0-1 NESCAC).

Wesleyan was in control from the first match of the day, taking all nine matches on way to their first win of 2023. The Cardinals won the doubles portion fairly easily, with two 8-2 victories to go along with a 8-5 win to go up 3-0 heading into singles play. Wesleyan dominated singles as well, with each of their six competitors winning in two sets.

In doubles, Wesleyan continued their hot start to the season. The Cardinals won two of their three matches in doubles against nationally ranked Williams, and one-upped that Sunday by taking all three. JT Bilski '26 teamed up with Ben Mitchell '24 to take down the Camels' Aaron Fleishman and Jules Taylor-Kerman in the closest doubles match of the day, 8-5. The next match included the first-year duo of Harry Collomb '26 Chase Kasday '26 winning their second straight match of the weekend over James Serhant III and Andy Feldman, 8-2. Harry Portnoy '24 and Brian Lee '25 closed out doubles with another Cardinals 8-2 victory, this time over Conn College's Gavin Anderson and Krishh Tipnis.

For singles it was more of the same for the Cardinals, with six more victories over the Camels for the clean 9-0 sweep on the day. Kasday continued his impressive day with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win over Tipnis of Conn College. Portnoy had an impressive victory himself, topping Feldman 6-0, 6-1 for yet another Cards W. Max Lustgarten '25 and Tai MacDonald '26 were able to defeat their opponents in two sets, with Lustgarten over Anderson (6-3, 6-2) and MacDonald over Serhant (6-3, 6-4) to extend the Wesleyan lead to 7-0. Collomb and Bilski closed the day with close victories over their opponents to finish off the Cardinals big day. Collomb defeated Taylor 7-5, 7-6 (3) followed by Bilski taking down Fleishman 7-5, 7-6 (1) to complete Wesleyan's victory over the Camels Sunday.

Wesleyan will return to the court Saturday March 11th, for their home opener against another NESCAC opponent in Trinity. The match will begin at 2 pm at John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts.
