WESTFIELD, MA. – The Wesleyan baseball team traveled to Massachusetts for their 2
nd non-conference game in as many days, to take on the Westfield State Owls. The Cardinals would jump out to an early lead, taking a 4-0 lead through four innings of play. After the Owls came back and tied it, Wesleyan added four more in the 5
th to go up 8-4. Westfield State fought back again, adding seven total runs in the 6
th and 7
th to take their first lead of the game at 12-8. The Cards attempted to fight back two runs in the final two innings, but it wasn't enough and the Owls took the victory 13-10. Westfield State improves to 9-12. Wesleyan drops their 3
rd straight game, moving to 9-12 on the season.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Wesleyan got out to a quick start, scoring the first four runs of the game. It started in the 1st, with two runs on two hits. Ernie Little '26 continues his hot streak with an RBI-single. They added two more in the 3rd on an error and another RBI-hit from the first-year, Little. Adam Bowler '23 was equally special for the Cards through the first three innings, holding the Owls to no runs and a single hit
- Westfield State got the bats going in the 4th inning, finishing with four runs on five hits. Eddie Zanor '23 and was able to stop the bleeding, stranding the bases loaded, but the damage was done as the game was tied 4-4. Wesleyan came back with a huge offensive half-inning of their own, plating four runs on two hits and a pair of Owls' errors. Ricky Finkel '23 and James Marsden '26 had the big hits of the inning, with Finkel hitting an RBI-double while Marsden drove in one on a single to the left side to give Wesleyan back the lead, 8-4
- The Owls fought back again with big 6th and 7th innings, that gave them their first lead of the contest. Westfield State managed four runs on four hits in the 6th, followed by a three-run 7th and they found themselves with a 12-8 lead going into the final two innings of play. Little continued his impressive day by blasting a solo-shot over the left field fence and it was down to a three score deficit. The Owls quickly got that run back in the bottom half and it came down to the final three outs for the Cards at 13-9. Marsden singled home a run with two down in the inning, but that would do it and the Cardinals found fall 13-10
NOTES:
- Wesleyan used five pitchers in this one, making it 14 arms used in the last two games
- Wesleyan scores 10+ runs for the 6th time this season
- Little (3-for-5, R, 3 RBIs) and Marsden (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI) both tying their career highs in hits
- Owls outhit the Cardinals 15-8

th, for another non-conference matchup. The Cardinals will take on the Emerson Lions starting at 4 pm.
