No. 8 Women’s Crew Sees 2nd Varsity 8 Boat Capture First Place, Defeating Tufts, Bates, and Wellesley

MEDFORD, Mass. – The No. 8 ranked Wesleyan women's crew team raced against No. 2 Bates, No. 3 Tufts, and No. 4 Wellesley on Saturday at the Malden River. The Cardinals' varsity 8 finished in fourth place while the 2nd varsity 8 boat captured a first-place finish. Wesleyan's top boat clocked in at 6:53.7 in the opening race of the day, finishing behind Tufts' 6:49.3. Later in the third-place race, the Cardinals (6:57.2) were defeated by Bates (6:51.03).
 
Wesleyan's 2nd varsity 8 showed very well on the day, crossing the line in 6:49.7 in the opening race to beat Tufts' time of 6:56.1. Then in the final, it was Wesleyan who came out on top with another impressive time of 6:53.8 that bested Wellesley's 6:59.2 to take first place.
 
The 3rd varsity 8 was also in the competition and landed a third-place result. In the opening race, the Cardinals clocked in at 7:23.5 to finish behind Tufts. The Cardinals followed that up with a win over Wellesley, finishing in 7:17.1 to take third place.
 
Next up for the Cardinals is the Little Three Regatta on Saturday, April 22 at 9:00 AM. Wesleyan is set to race against No. 1 ranked Williams.
