MEDFORD, Mass. – Striking just 54 seconds into play with the help of
Audrey Lavey '23, the Wesleyan women's soccer team put up a trio of goals in a 3-1 NESCAC victory over No. 7 nationally ranked Tufts on Tuesday night from Bello Field. Wesleyan now stands 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC.
Setting the tone for the remainder of the game,
Stefanie Stoj '26 found
Riley Buehler '26 on the right-hand side of the Jumbos' defensive zone as Buehler took off for the end line to keep the Cardinals' possession in bounds. Buehler, clocking Lavey in front of the Jumbos' goalkeeper, set a pass down the line for the first tally of the night.
Entering the second half up 1-0, the Cardinals refused let the Jumbos rest for too long as
Katie O'Connell '25 scored her first of the season at 57:22. Catching a pass inside the box from
Catherine Gallagher '26, O'Connell dribbled back out for a long shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
Headed in by
Waverly Meyers '26 from the right post at 78:33 on a corner kick taken by Lavey, the Cardinals boasted a three-goal lead with 12 minutes remaining in regulation. Two minutes later the Jumbos scored from inside the box.
Goalkeeper
Juliette Vemmer '25 made six saves on 15 shots. Jumbos goalkeeper Kianna Hill made three saves on 10 shots.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they head to College of Mount Saint Vincent for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
