No. 18 Volleyball Handles Endicott in 3-0 Sweep

Cardinals remain unbeaten, moving to 6-0 on the season

BEVERLY, Mass. – Even with the quick turnaround following Friday night's thrilling sweep at Tufts, the No. 18 ranked Wesleyan volleyball team was equally as impressive in a Saturday matinee as the Cardinals defeated Endicott, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-17) from MacDonald Arena. With the win, Wesleyan remains unbeaten at 6-0 on the year while the Gulls fall back to 4-4 overall.

Wesleyan's offense was tremendous throughout, hitting at least .226 in every set and .290 for the match as the Cardinals racked up 46 kills on 107 attempts. Sophia Lindus '26 posted 12 kills on 30 attempts while Michelle Jorba '25 totaled nine kills on 18 attempts, Bella Ahearn '23 finished with six kills and no errors, and Bianca Gonya '25 totaled six kills on seven attempts (.714 attack percentage).

Ali Landa '26 and Maya Lopansri '25 split setter duties, and both showed well, combining for 37 assists and 14 digs. Landa finished with 20 assist and eight digs with one service ace while Lopansri tallied 17 assists, six digs, and two service aces.

The Cardinals set the tone with defense in the early going, forcing the Gulls into nine attack errors to go on and win the opening set 25-18 despite Endicott owning a 13-11 advantage in kills. Wesleyan took an early lead thanks to a 4-0 run and never looked back as Endicott only got to within three points of the lead for the remainder of the set.

Wesleyan flipped the script in the second set, owning a massive 19-9 advantage in kills while hitting .351. Another early run set the tone, with the Cardinals rattling off six unanswered points behind the Lindus serve to lead 9-3. Endicott again closed the gap to three points on multiple occasions in the set, but Wesleyan was too much, finishing the set on consecutive Jorba kills.

Looking to close the door on a second consecutive road sweep this weekend, the Cardinals finished off the Gulls with a 16-kill third set and 25-17 score line. Endicott came out with three unanswered points to begin the set, but Wesleyan responded in-kind with a 5-0 run that later turned into a 10-5 lead. Endicott lowered the deficit to two points midway through the set, but were unable to get closer as the match ended with back-to-back kills from Gonya.

Reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Bianca Ortiz '24 continues to shine at libero, adding 18 digs to her season total which now stands at 131, still atop the NESCAC standings.

Next up for Wesleyan is a mid-week NESCAC clash against Trinity from Silloway Gymnasium at 6:00 PM followed by a Friday night showdown at home against Susquehanna and Saturday afternoon neutral site match against RIT held at Tufts.
