BRUNSWICK, Me. – The Wesleyan women's basketball team kept the score close in the first quarter, but No. 13 ranked Bowdoin proved too much in a 77-44 victory for the Polar Bears on Tuesday afternoon from Morrell Gymnasium. The Cardinals (9-5, 1-2 NESCAC) lose for the second straight time on the road in NESCAC play while Bowdoin (16-1, 4-0 NESCAC) is on a 13-game win streak.
The Cardinals kept pace with Bowdoin, trailing by just two points after the first quarter despite shooting just 20 percent (4-20 FG) in the frame. Wesleyan benefitted from eight offensive rebounds and three three-pointers to stay within reach of the lead. Bowdoin led 15-5 with 3:10 remaining, but
Olivia Quinn '26 hit a three to start a 10-2 Cardinal run that included a
Madi Gomez '24 triple and make it 17-15 Bowdoin after one.
Wesleyan hit another three three-pointers in the second quarter, going 3-for-5 from behind the line, but the Cardinals missed all nine of their two-point attempts and didn't shoot a free throw as Bowdoin outscored Wesleyan 22-9 in the second quarter to take a 39-24 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals scored on their first two possessions in the second half but the Polar Bears hit back with a 10-2 run of their own to lead by 21 points. Bowdoin stretched their lead in the fourth and went on to win by a comfortable 33-point margin.
Quinn led the way for Wesleyan with 13 points (3-5 3FG), eight rebounds, and two steals.
Felicia Fongemie '27 added eight points while
Maggie Lee '23 and
Alana Jones '24 each scored seven.
Sydney Jones scored a game-high 20 points (7-10 FG, 5-6 3FG) for the Polar Bears while Abbie Quinn had 19 points (9-13 FG) and eight rebounds in just 19 minutes off the bench.
Wesleyan has another tough NESCAC road test next with a trip to Trinity slated for Saturday with tip-off at 3 PM.
