Distance Runners Dominate for Men’s Track & Field at the NYC Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team saw their distance contingent lead the way at the NYC Gotham Cup held at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Friday. The field of runners featured participants from schools across all three NCAA Divisions, as well as unattached club runners, and did not feature team scoring. Nate Fogarty '25 and Liam Calhoun '26 packed up well and both landed Top 10 finishes in the 1000m. Fogarty crossed the line in seventh place overall out of 33 runners with a time of 2:30.97 while Calhoun was right behind in eighth place, clocking in at 2:31.33. Alex Kermath '26 also showed well in the event with a 12th place finish (2:33.50).
 
Wesleyan's 4x800m relay was second-best on the day out of six teams, as the group of Fogarty, Luke Consolati '25, Alex Lara '27, and Bruce Lenes '26 was runner-up in the event with a time of 8:11.45.
 
A couple more Top 10 finishers for the Cardinals came in the mile as Zach Allen '27 was ninth overall (4:23.97) while Owen Rogers '24 was right behind in 10th with a new personal-best time of 4:24.43. Aidan Ward '24 wasn't far off besting his personal-best in the mile, crossing the line in 4:27.77 for 16th place while Noah Mahoney '27 placed 17th (4:29.89).
 
Competing in the 800m for just the second time in his career, Lenes found himself just one spot outside the Top 10, placing 11th overall in a field of 42 with a time of 1:58.80.
 
The distance contingent rounded out with Calder Burke '27 and Ben McKinney '27 placing 15th and 16th, respectively, out of 31 in the 3000m as Burke had a time of 8:56.24 and McKinney had a time of 9:00.06.
 
Javier Orellana '25 continues to impress early in the season, posting a mark of 14.02m in the shot put to take second place out of 27 competitors.
 
Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 placed eighth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 12.70m and added another eighth place in the weight throw at 13.67m.
 
Anish Visht '24 earned fifth place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.60m. Will Dollhopf '25 finished 10th-best in the weight throw (13.31m).
 
Wesleyan is back in action at home next Saturday at 10 AM with the Wesleyan Indoor Invite from Bacon Field House.
