Cardinals Senior Salute Ends in Scoreless Draw with Williams

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – On a very sunny afternoon at Jackson Field, the Wesleyan men's soccer team pitched a scoreless NESCAC draw with Williams College as they honored the eight-man senior class that includes several top scorers.

Hoping to come away with stake in the Little Three Championship with Amherst, the Cardinals held the Ephs without a goal and earned the shutout draw to give junior goalkeeper Mathis Blanc '26 his own sixth shutout of the season.

With just under nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Cardinals found themselves chasing down the Ephs into their own zone after a goal kick by Ephs goalkeeper Ben Diffley. Skirting across the box with a sliding save behind Blanc, Zach Feldman '27 kept an Ephs win at bay as the ball was knocked out of the goal and out of bounds. Feldman and the defense allowed only four shots to the Cardinals' six heading into the half.

Looking for an opportunity to gain an extra point in the NESCAC, the Ephs picked up the pace as the second half commenced, now just barely outshooting the Cardinals 5-4. Chris Porte '25, one of the honored seniors, was an offensive force with three shots in his return to play after several missed games. Within the final 12 minutes of regulation Porte had several scoring opportunities in front of Diffley.

Blanc finished the afternoon in goal with two saves. Diffley, who took every Ephs freekick, made four saves of his own.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Bowdoin College for a 12 p.m. NESCAC kickoff.
