WESTFIELD, MA. – The Wesleyan women's cross country team claimed a sturdy second place finish on Saturday morning at the James Earley Invitational. The team was led by a group of underclassmen with eight runners finishing in the Top 50. The James Earley Invitational is hosted by Westfield State University.
Williams won the event with 44 points and were followed by the Cardinals with 96. Making up the Top 10 out of 16 schools were Westfield State (99), Roger Williams (108), Salve Regina (143), Springfield (159), Trinity (202), Emerson (203), Conn. College (216), and Framingham State (283).
The first Cardinal to cross the finish line on Saturday morning was
Chase Cerrell '28 as she ran a 18:40.19, averaging a six minute mile.
Maggie Smith '27 was the next Cardinal to finish, running a 19:27.12 for 15
th place to close out the Top 20.
Sofia Magnera '28 placed 21
st as she clocked a final time of 19:36.73. At 28
th,
Grace Bell ran a time of 19:56.44. Finishing just behind her in 29
th,
Mia Vientos '28 ran a 19:57.36.
Ellie Green '28 finished with a time of 20:27.59 for 42
nd place.
Tenley Flint '27 placed 46
th as she clocked a 20:33.04.
Stella Loezos was the final Cardinal to place, running 20:36.69 for 48
th place.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Conn. College for the Conn. College Invite.
