WORCESTER, Mass. – The defending national champion Wesleyan men's crew team closed out the fall season with a third-place finish at the Wormtown Chase on Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond.
The Cardinals' varsity 8 boat finished with a time of 14:56.491, good enough for third place out of 26 boats in the men's collegiate 8 race. Wesleyan finished behind Holy Cross and MIT, both programs who compete at the Division I level, while the Cardianls finished more than 17 seconds faster than the next-closest Div. III boat (Coast Guard) who placed sixth overall.
Wesleyan's 2
nd varsity 8 also had a strong showing, placing ninth overall and third-best among 2V8 boats in the field with a time of 15:23.383. Wesleyan's 3V8 was the second-fastest out of the five 3V8 boats in the field, finishing in 15:57.435 which was also good enough for 12
th place overall.
Rounding out the day for Wesleyan was a 4
th varsity 8 as that group finished in 15
th place with a time of 16:18.430.
This marked the final fall competition for the Cardinals who look to defend their national title with the start of the spring season in late March.
