Green’s Overtime Game Winner Lifts Cardinals Over Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Scoring the overtime game-winning goal, Dylan Green '26 led the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team to their first victory of the season, defeating Salve Regina University, 3-2, on Tuesday night while on the road at Salve Regina's Howard Rink.

Nearing the midway point of the third period, and with the game tied up at one, the Cardinals jumped the Seahawks to take their first lead of the game when Green managed to snag a rebounded save by Seahawks goaltender Sydney Baxter. With the Cardinals making their way back up the ice, Aimee Seppenwolde '26, who had a three-point night, made the initial shot but the puck was never covered, giving way for Green to snap the rebound over the line.

With less than three minutes remaining in regulation and a Cardinals win at the finish line, the Seahawks tied the game at two after a faceoff led to total possession in the Cardinals own zone. Samantha McKenzie made the tally and forced the game to overtime.

Entering the bonus period the Cardinals made little room for the Seahawks to gain any advantage, ripping two shots on Baxter after the Cardinals won the opening faceoff. Green settled her own rebound and sunk the game-winning puck behind Baxter to close out the night.

Seppenwolde was the point runner of the night, assisting on both of Green's goals, but the junior defender scored the original game-tying goal for the Cardinals in the third period. Gina Richards was responsible for the opening goal of the game in the second period, giving the Seahawks the opening advantage. Seppenwolde, who churned out shots all night, finally capitalized for her efforts and tied the game at one at 17:06.

Despite being outshot on goal, 33-29, the Cardinals outshot the Seahawks overall, 46-41. In goal for the Cardinals, Jenna Guglielmi '27 finished the night with 31 saves. In the opposite net, Baxter made 26 saves for the Seahawks.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 30, when they host Salve Regina in the second game of the non-conference series at Spurrier-Snyder Arena at 3 p.m.
