Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Cardinals Defeated in Overtime at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, CT. – After a no goal call in the third period sent the Wesleyan men's ice hockey team to overtime, Albertus Magnus College put an end to the match with two minutes remaining, defeating Wesleyan 2-1 in non-conference action on Saturday night from Ralph Walker Skating Rink.

A scoreless first period saw the 1-4-0 Cardinals go toe-to-toe with the 4-3-1 Falcons as Patrick McDevitt '28 came up with eight saves through the first 20 minutes. The Cardinals kept a slight edge on the Falcons for the entirety of the game, despite the outcome of the final score. While the Cardinals outshot the Falcons 31-24 overall, the Cardinals' production on offense was driven by Connor Sutherland '27 with six shots on goal and Tanner Kontir '27 from off the draw with a 10-5 differential.

27 seconds off the opening faceoff of the second period was all it took for the Cardinals to take a one goal lead as Sutherland was able to ring a shot behind Chase Hale in goal. At 19:33, with Kontir managing the puck along the far boards, Sutherland made the sprint up the ice, catching Kontir's backhanded pass before the snapshot hit the back of the net.

The Cardinals' lead was short lived as the Falcons tied the game up at one just 30 seconds later. Tyler Ignazitto struck for the Falcons at the right post, Tim Manning making the cross pass over the goal crease to set him with the assist.

Just as the first period ran, both McDevitt and Hale held both teams scoreless through the final period of action. The Cardinals nearly took the lead late in the period but the potential game-winning goal by Kontir was called off. Regaining control of the puck in the neutral zone, Kontir bulldozed his way down the far boards and across the crease. With the no-goal call, the Falcons' quick goal in the second period forced the game to overtime.

The Falcons closed the game with the overtime score, Zane Kindrachuk forcing his way around Owen Sweet '25 before going top shelf on McDevitt after three minutes of three-on-three hockey.

McDevitt finished the evening with 22 saves in goal for the Cardinals. Hale earned the win, finishing with 30 saves for the Falcons.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Dec. 1, when they head to Suffolk University for a 4:30 p.m. puck drop.
