Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 16 Men’s Basketball Improves to 10-0, Defeating Wentworth 83-62

Shane Regan '25 goes for 25 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, recording his first career double-double

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The wins keep on coming for the No. 16 ranked Wesleyan men's basketball team who defeated Wentworth 83-62 on Thursday afternoon in the Cruzin Classic down in Florida. The Cardinals remain undefeated, improving to 10-0 for just the third time in the team's 122-year history.

Shane Regan '25 was the catalyst for Wesleyan all afternoon as the senior guard totaled 25 points on 11-for-16 shooting with a career-high 12 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks in just 26 minutes of action. Regan went for 25+ for the second time in the past three games while this marked his first career double-double.

A superior physicality brought by the Cardinals paid dividends all throughout the afternoon as Wesleyan more than doubled up the Leopards in the rebounding department. For the game, the Cardinals grabbed 52 rebounds compared to just 25 for Wentworth. The +27 rebounding margin is a new season-high for Wesleyan who have won the rebounding battle in 9-of-10 games thus far on the season.

After a back-and-forth first five minutes of play, the Cardinals used a 7-0 run to take a six-point lead nearing the midway point of the first half. Oscar Edelman '28 cashed in from long range to start the scoring run before Regan scored the next two Wesleyan baskets.

It was 18-14 Wesleyan with 7:47 left in the half before the Cardinals seized complete control of the contest, scoring 15 unanswered points to initially take their first double-digit point lead and ultimately leading 33-14. At one point in the 15-0 run, Regan scored 10 straight points including three-pointers on consecutive possessions.

As has been the case through most of the season, Wesleyan's defense played a key role as the Cardinals held Wentworth to just four points in a span of over 13 minutes of play. In that span, Wentworth missed 10 consecutive shots and went 1-for-16 overall from the floor.

Wesleyan led by as many as 29 points in the second half as a 9-2 run made it 63-34 Cardinals with 13:14 left to play. The Leopards cut the deficit down under 20 points in the closing minutes before the final horn sounded on a 21-point Wesleyan win.

Four Cardinals hit double-figure scoring totals as Fritz Hauser '26 went 6-for-9 from the floor to finish with 12 points. Nicky Johnson '25 added 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals in 29 minutes. Edelman came off the bench to score 11 points while Sam Pohlman '26 finished with nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.

With the win, Wesleyan improves to 10-0 on the year – its third-best start to open a season in the program's 122 years of varsity competition. Currently, the only squads to win more games to open a season were the 2016-17 Cardinals as well as the 1911-12 squad, who finished the year with a perfect 13-0 mark.

Wesleyan controlled the interior, outscoring Wentworth 42-16 in points in the paint. The Cardinals also generated 19 fast break points compared to just five for the Leopards.

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday at 2:30 PM to close out their Florida trip with a non-conference showdown against Widener.
