BOSTON, Mass. – The Wesleyan track & field team took a small contingent to Boston on Sunday to compete in the UMass Boston Beacon Season Opener held at The TRACK at New Balance.
Ethan Singleton '28 stole the show with his win and record-setting 400m performance while eight other Cardinals were in action on the day.
Singleton, who had just won the 60m on Saturday at the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational, came out and dusted the competition on Sunday in the 400m with an indoor school record time of 49.44 seconds. Singleton bested the field of 14 sprinters by nearly three full seconds, as the runner-up clocked in at 52.22 seconds. His record-setting time beat a previous school record of 49.96 that was set by Dan Beaudette '01 all the way back in 2000.
Also featuring for the Cardinal men on Saturday included
Steve Paul '28 who crossed the line in 22.36 seconds in the 200m, placing second overall out of 16.
Luke Consolati '25 competed in the mile for the first time in his career, finishing in 4:31.61 which was good enough for second place out of 17. Finally, the 3000m featured both
Liam Calhoun '26 and
Dylan Cote '28 as the tandem finished second and third overall out of 11. Calhoun's 8:31.85 is a personal-best time while Cote clocked in at 8:54.97.
The women's contingent saw Mia Ventos '28 turn in a runner-up finish in the mile, finishing in 5:30.46.
Jane Kakalec '26 joined her in the event, finishing in fifth place with a time of 5:47.06.
Virginia Lessner '28 featured in the 3000m, placing second out of seven runners with a time of 11:00.08, while
Genevieve Minard '28 also competed in the 3k and clocked in at 11:48.91 to place fifth.
Wesleyan heads into the winter break where they will be off for the next month before returning to action on Saturday, January 11 with the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational held in Boston at The TRACK at New Balance.
