MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Swimming a 51.81 final in the 100-yard individual medley,
Harrison Hong '25 became the first swimmer for the Wesleyan men's swimming and diving team to set a pool record at Webster Natatorium as Wesleyan fell to Connecticut College 196.5-90.5 on Saturday afternoon.
Hong, the first Cardinal to ever set a pool record at home at the Webster Natatorium, also set two more records as he finished the afternoon with two individual event wins. Hong's victory in the 100-yard IM was also a school record on top of the first pool record, beating Alex Kapphahn's '18 previous school record time of 53.01 set in 2016. Hong also won the 100-yard butterfly with a new school record of 48.12, a NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time, as he bested his own school record set in 2023 of 49.51. During the 100-fly event, Hong's split of 22.39 set a new record in the 50-yard butterfly, beating his previous 22.40 record time last year.
In the 100-yard breaststroke,
Jeremy Kim '23 took first place with a final time of 59.49.
Daniel Isman '26 won the 200-yard breaststroke, setting a season-best time of 2:10.34.
Harmut Doerwaldt '25 placed fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking a final 10.26.80.
Mason Polaner '24 took third in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing the race with a 1:43.93.
In the 100-yard backstroke,
Lucas Pirner '25 placed third, swimming a 54.22. Taua Fitisemanu '24 finished two places below him in fifth with a 57.18.
Behind Kim in the 100-yard breaststroke, Isman finished with a second-place time of 1:00.21.
Cooper Mayo '26 took fourth at 1:02.17, and
Devayan Roychoudhury '26 placed fifth at 1:02.33.
Placing third in the 200-yard butterfly was
Ryan Kobayashi '25 with a final time of 2:00.06.
Fred Li '25 finished in fifth place, touching the wall at 2:15.52.
Sekander Ali '25 placed third in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a 22.64.
Kyle McGregor '24 finished in fifth at 24.16.
Taking fourth place in the 200-yard backstroke, Pirner swam a 2:00.85 and Fitisemanu finished in fifth place at 2:05.91.
Following Isman in the 200-yard breaststroke, Mayo took third with a 2:16.0 and Roychoudhury was fifth with a final 2:26.32.
Polaner took third in the final distance event, swimming a 4:45.56 in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Wesleyan 'A' team won the 200-yard medley relay with a combined 1:33.68. The 'C' team took fourth with a final total time of 1:38.41, and the 'B' team place fifth at 1:39.41.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Wesleyan 'A' placed second at 1:28.34 and the 'B' team combined for a final 1:33.53 for fourth place.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Friday, Feb. 9, and Saturday, Feb. 10, when they compete in the Boston University Winter Open, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
